Autistic Children - Do They Need special Foods in Their Diets?

Are you aware that a big concern for parents of autistic children is their diet? There is conflicting data on many fronts whether confident food groups should be eliminated to enhance the behavior of the child. Saying this, do the children get all the vitamins and nutrients needed for all colse to good health? It is known, that 50% of children with autism have gastrointestinal problems which include, Crohns Disease or colitis. So now, the child's diets have to be monitored as well as their behavior.






Some conflicting reports ask; was the revising in those with autism, from the elimination of gluten in their diet or from improved toilet habits that brought on good behavior.


Special Diet


By removing gluten which is found in wheat, barley and rye and casein which is found in dairy products, parents are reporting remarkable revising in their autistic children. The gluten found in noted grains tend to irritate or aggravate autism symptoms, as the body cannot absorb them completely, leaving undigested and poisonous proteins leaching into the circulatory system.

A popular diet among many autistic children is the Gfcf or gluten-free casein-free diet. There are those in the curative family that are skeptical but some doctors and many in the community do see results and many changes in the autistic child. Some improved systems are a best eye contact, longer concentration spans and less aggressive behavior.

It may be difficult to wean the autistic child off these foods as they are favorites and many have a craving for them. It is suggested to eliminate them slowly and find a safe food or popular drink to replace it. Many autistic children are finicky eaters to begin with so it is not always easy to find a nutritious substitute for ice cream, or peanut butter and jam. The safety and well being of their children are utmost in parents minds so it is always advisable to visit your pediatrician.
